Carey Building Contractors were engaged to undertake the new Visitor’s experience at Kylemore Abbey and walled Gardens.
The project which consisted of the refurbishment of a new wing within the protected structure of the Abbey is entitled ‘From Generation to Generation – the story of Kylemore Abbey’ and was developed in conjunction with Kylemore Trust and an investment of €1.7m under Fáilte Ireland’s Grants Scheme for large Tourism Projects.
The new wing has four authentically refurbished rooms with exhibition stands and a new multi-media presentation which takes the visitor through historical footage including archive photographs, artefacts and state-of-the-art speaking portraits.
Carey Building Contractors worked closely with the Benedictine Order, Michael Horan, Axo Architects and Kylemore Trust in order to provide an authentic history and vision of the Abbey and it’s relationship with the Benedictine Order dating back to the 1920’s.
The landscape surrounding the Abbey has also been landscaped which facilitates ease of access for those with impaired mobility.
